Last bucket pulled at shaft 2
13. May 2016
After the first bucket on the Ust-Jaiwa project was pulled on 19th December 2013, now - 865 days later - the last bucket was pulled to surface. With pride and melancholy the miners look back to the achievements of the past, surely some challenges and problems had to be overcome.
After completion of the jobsite installation including freeze hole drilling and foreshaft on schedule, shaft sinking in the freeze shaft section began in 2013.
Ground water is one of the biggest enemies of the miner as you know so that the first 245 m needed to be sunk with extreme sensitivity before suitable chemical and mechanical sealings were installed at the lower part of the freeze shaft section.
After installation of the cast-iron tubbings, the crews were in contact with rock salt and potash for the first time and thus with the mineral to be extracted later.
Shaft foundations as well as loadings stations and pockets with considerable dimensions were driven, furthermore a steel reinforced inner liner with compressive backfill was inserted.
The last bucket represents at shaft 2 another decisive milestone on this highly demanding project which was successfully completed by the employees of Deilmann-Haniel. The works at shaft 2 are ahead of the ambitious time schedule, and all members of the project team are proud of the achievements with up to now 20 months without a lost time accident and high-quality implementation. We would like to thank<s> </s>all of them for their efforts and sweat equity.
